Kids Programs

 

Reading Logs:

Reading to your child, attending storytimes, listening to audiobooks, and reading comics and magazines all may be applied to your reading logs!

Picture Book Level:

Track the number of picture books you read to earn prizes and enter into weekly raffles!  Pick up a log at the Kids Desk.

 Chapter Book Level:

Track the number of pages you read to earn prizes and enter into weekly  raffles!  Pick up a log at the Kids Desk.

 Science Activity Logs:

Explore science through fun activities!  Pick up an activity log at the Kids Desk for the chance to earn additional prizes!

 

Summer Weekly Kids Programs


Mondays:

Baby Bookworms Storytime

  • Interactive storytimes for babies and toddlers who aren't quite ready for a traditional storytime. We explore songs and stories, then have social play time. 
    • Mondays at 10:30am: 0-18 months
    • Mondays at 11:15am: 12-24 months 
      • There will be no storytimes on August 11th
      • On August 25th, Heartsong Music Demos will be in place of storytimes (Free. All ages).

 

*NEW* Wacky Science: Mondays at 3:30pm (AGES 5+ ONLY)

  • Calling all little scientists!  Join us each Monday afternoon to do fun and messy science experiments and demonstrations.  For kids ages 5 & up.  Space is limited, so pick up ticket at the children's desk starting at 3:00pm!
      • 7/28 Insta-Worms
      • 8/4 Rainbow of Density
      • Join us in September for our new "Make It!" Class (Mondays at 4:00pm, ages 5+)

 Tuesdays:

Little Texas Homeschool: First Tuesday of each month at 10:30am

  • An open homeschool group for kids ages 2-10. Meets in the large meeting room on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30am.


Storytime & Craft: Tuesdays at 6:00pm & 7:00pm

  • A storytime followed by a simple craft activity for families with kids of all ages. Seating is limited, tickets are available at the kids desk starting at 5:30pm.
      • 7/29 - Water: Bubbling Magic Water Bottles
      • 8/5 - Senses: Spice Painting
        • There will be no Storytime & Craft on August 12th.

Wednesdays:

Arts & Crafts: Wednesdays at 6:00pm

  • Create one-of-a-kind artistic creations with Miss Dianne. Ages 8+ or with an adult. Seating is limited, tickets are available at the kids desk starting at 5:30pm.
    • 7/30  Mosaics
    • 8/6 Making Sharks and whales


Teen Nerd Night/Spark a Reaction: Wednesdays at 6:00pm

  • Get nerdy with Sci-Fi topics just for tweens & teens ages 10-18 only.
  • Free. No registration. Meets in the small meeting room across from the main library building.
      • 7/30  Zombie Apocalypse
      • 8/6   The Art of Science

Thursdays:

*NEW* Sign Storytime (all ages): Thursdays at 10:30am
  • Kids of all ages are invited to learn sign language through stories and songs!

*NEW* Family Documentary Nights: Thursdays from 6:00pm-7:30pm

  • Discover the many fascinating worlds of science as we explore a variety of topics with DisneyNature screenings! Free. No registration. In the storytime room. 
        • July 24th:  Disney Nature film - Earth
        • July 31st:  Disney Nature film - Wings of Life
        • August 7th:  Disney Nature film - African Cats

 Fridays:

Weekly Summer Reading Log Raffle: Turn in your reading logs in before 6:00pm on Friday to be entered in our weekly raffle drawings!

Toddler & Preschool Storytimes

  • Traditional storytimes, intended for toddlers and preschoolers who can sit quietly and listen to 2-3 picture books.
    • Fridays at 10:30am: Toddlers 18-36 months
    • Fridays at 11:15am: Preschoolers 3-6 years
      • August 15th - Semillitas de Espanol will be in place of storytimes (Free. All ages).
      • August 29th - 11:15am Safety Storytime with Deputy Zainab Banks

Saturdays:

 *NEW* French Storytime (all ages):  Alternating Saturdays at 11:00am

  • August 2nd

Saturday Storytime (all ages):  Alternating Saturdays at 11:00am

  • July 26th

Bow Wow Reading Dogs (ages 5+): Saturdays from 12:00pm-1:00pm

  • Little ones can practice their reading skills over the summer break with therapy dogs at the library!  Ages 5 & up.  Registration required - http://wblibrary.eventbrite.com.
